About Cheer

Franklin Road Academy Athletics
As part of an inclusive Christian community, FRA provides coeducational athletic programs for lower school through seniors in high school. FRA stresses the importance of the development of body and spirit, faith, character, and sportsmanship. Franklin Road Academy competes as a DII Class A school in all High School Sports, excluding Football (DII AA), as a member of the Tennessee Secondary State Athletic Association (TSSAA) at the high school level and the Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference (HVAC) at the middle school level.

Mission
The athletic program at Franklin Road Academy fosters transformational growth through a competitive athletic experience.

Philosophy
Franklin Road Academy continues to build a strong tradition of academic excellence while offering a wide range of successful and important co-curricular activities, including athletics. In keeping with the school's overall mission, Franklin Road Academy’s student-athletes should use sports as a significant educational component to help them grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. Franklin Road Academy is very proud that its students have used the athletic program to advance to prestigious universities, including Oregon, Columbia, Washington & Lee, Vanderbilt, The U.S. Naval Academy, and the University of Georgia. Our students also continue participating in athletics at the club level and as coaches after graduation.  Franklin Road Academy aims to provide opportunities for students to participate in a wide variety of interscholastic sports at the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity levels. Franklin Road Academy believes in and supports the value of the multi-sport experience. We encourage broad participation by students and active faculty support.

Athletic Development
Participation, athletic skill development, and competitive team environments will each be used as points of emphasis based on the team level. Our middle school teams will emphasize participation and skill development more heavily. In contrast, our high school junior varsity teams will emphasize athletic skill development and learning how to be competitive. Varsity teams will create more competitive environments to excel in regional and state competitions.  At all levels, but especially at the varsity level, playing time is not guaranteed, and it is left to the coach's discretion to field a team that best represents Franklin Road Academy. Playing time is determined at the sole discretion of the coach. The level of commitment and competition for playing time will increase as the student-athlete progresses through each level of participation.   At all levels, especially the varsity level, each coach must clearly and consistently articulate the expectations of a team member. Before each season, each varsity coach will define the criteria for receiving an FRA varsity letter with the athletic director's approval.
